Oct. 18, 2021 - Last week, the Brazilian steelmaker Gerdau announced the resumption of steel production operations at its plant located in Araucária, Paraná. The investment cost around 55 million Brazilian reals.
The plant has an annual capacity of 420,000 tons of crude steel, was inactive since 2014, and will gradually resume its activities, with volumes adjusted to the evolution of the domestic market.
The resumption of production reflected the positive scenario of steel demand in Brazil, mainly in the civil construction, infrastructure, and industry sectors. The resumption is creating around 300 new direct and indirect jobs, according to the company.
